Privacy: what goes where
Your friends’ private side lives on your computer. The server only learns what it needs to act in the world.
Where things are kept
Section titled “Where things are kept”| What | Where | Sent to |
|---|---|---|
| Your private chats with your own friends | Your computer | Your AI connection, when your friend thinks |
| Your friends’ memories and chat summaries | Your computer | Your AI connection, when your friend thinks |
| Your private notes about a friend | Your computer | Your AI connection, when your friend thinks |
| Your AI connection choice and model | Your computer (pyhf/client.json in the game folder) |
Nowhere |
| Your API keys | Your computer, in a separate secrets file | Only that key’s own provider |
| Your subscription sign-ins | The official ChatGPT or Claude app | The mod never reads them |
| Your voice | Your computer, in memory only while it is turned into text | Nowhere with the offline engine; OpenRouter only if you choose it |
| A friend’s public card: name, skin, description, Stability | The server | Other players’ games, and other players’ requests to your friend |
| Orders, jobs and the friend in the world | The server | What the game needs to show |
When you /msg your own friend, the line never goes through the server: it is stored on your computer and sent only to the AI connection you choose when your friend thinks. Only the typed steps your friend decides to take (walk here, mine that) reach the server, which checks them.
Your AI connection
Section titled “Your AI connection”Choosing a cloud connection sends your friend’s context to that provider each time it thinks: what you said, the relevant memories and notes, and what it can see around it. Your keys and sign-ins stay where they are. A local model keeps everything on your computer. Free hosted plans may train on what you send (see Free hosted options).
Other players
Section titled “Other players”- Your private chats, memories and notes never reach another player or the server.
- When another player talks to your friend, their words go through your connection, they are told so first, and your friend answers them without your private memories, chats or notes. See Trust and multiplayer.
- Another player’s private chats with their friends never reach you.
Forgetting
Section titled “Forgetting”Forget removes a memory from your computer, with the conversation it came from. As the Memories page says: “Kept only on this computer. Forgetting can’t take back what was already sent to an AI service or written to game logs.” Ordinary chat lines are written to Minecraft’s own log, like any chat. See Memories and persona.
The microphone test
Section titled “The microphone test”The microphone test is not sent to your friends or the server, and its audio is kept in memory only, never written to disk. Nothing is saved except the gain. See Talking and voice.
